A NACS sweep will aid in the prevention of
chimney fires and reduce risk of dangerous fuel
emissions such as Carbon Monoxide.
Carbon Monoxide is produced by the incomplete
combustion of fossil fuels such as gas, coal
and wood, which are used in the following appliances:
gas fires, boilers, open fires and multi fuel
burners.
YOU CANNOT SMELL IT, OR TASTE IT, AND THERE
IS NO COLOUR. IT COULD BE WITH YOU RIGHT NOW!
General advice is to maintain all appliances
regularly.
NACS Recommends
- Smokeless fuels: At least once a year
- Bitumous coal: At least twice a year
- Wood: Quarterly when in use
- Oil: Once a year
- Gas: Once a year
Having your chimney swept will eliminate the
build up of soot from fuel used and clear obstructions
such as birds and animal nests, leaves and building
debris.
A suitable access must be provided for the
cleaning and inspection of flues. For example,
soot boxes, soot doors in stovepipes, or an
inspection plate to comply with current building
regulations (Document J).
